It’s Diwali and New Year celebrations for Guj

Ahemdabad: Celebrations double in Gujarat as people celebrate Diwali and then the Gujarati New Year a day later. One of the Gujarati families, the Patel family is busy preparing for the festivities.

From the customary Rangoli to cleaning up of the house and from mouth-watering dishes to new clothes

.

"I like Rangoli and firecrackers. Also, new clothes and everything else," says a family member, Tithi Patel.

Her mother Purvi started preparations weeks ago. The house is being given a clean look and traditional Gujarati dishes are being prepared. She now waits for the New Year as the traditional lamps are lit.

"We will meet relatives and friends, Wish them and of course, there are a lot of delicacies to enjoy too," says Purvi Patel.

The festive season should be at its peak by now, but its not showing in the markets due to the effect of the market crash and economic crisis. Some are buying goods, but the markets wear a subdued look.

"Yes, the markets have had a bad impact and things might only worsen. But it will be good if the New Year brings in better times," Janak Patel.

Like the Patel family, lakhs of Gujaratis earnestly hope that the new year will bring back ushers in wealth, happiness and prosperity.
