New Delhi: Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer 'Ek Tha Tiger' is the biggest grosser of 2012 so far and earned more than Rs 200 crore at the box office. Yash Raj Films set a new record with 'Ek Tha Tiger', which was released in 1700 screens in India. As being said, many distributors were forced to sign a contract that they can only screen 'Ek Tha Tiger' if they agree to exclusively screen Yash Chopra’s next film on Diwali. Even the title of the film was not revealed till then.
Now, Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma starrer 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' is all set to hit the screens on November 13, 2012. The film will be released in 1500 screens across India, so it has lost the first battle already.
'Ek Tha Tiger' was released on August 15, 2012 (Independence Day) and it also enjoyed the extended weekend benefit thanks to Eid. Even the films released after 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi' and 'Joker' were not too impressive. Therefore 'Ek Tha Tiger' got enough time to woo the audiences. 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' will clash with Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha starrer 'Son of Sardaar' at the box office. Ajay Devgn has refused to change the release date of his film and has sent a legal notice to the YRF team for manipulating distributors. While his previous film 'Bol Bachchan' was released in 1200 screens. This time he is struggling to grab 400 screens.
Therefore, 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' has to be really good; otherwise Bollywood fans who love comedy and action can still change the game for SRK and gang.
When it comes to Salman Khan's films, what critics say doesn't matter much for the audiences. No wonder his films like 'Wanted', 'Ready', 'Bodyguard' and 'Ek Tha Tiger' conveniently made it to the Rs 100 crore club. On the other hand, the past few years have not been really great for Shah Rukh Khan. From 'Billu', 'Ra.One' to 'Don 2', the films got mixed response at the box office. All SRK fans are eagerly waiting for his next release and we hope he doesn't disappoint them.
Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are known Bollywood rivals. Now Salman Khan has shot an item number for 'Son of Sardaar' to grab eyeballs. Do you think the trick will work?
The biggest strength of 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' is that it's a Yash Chopra film. It is the last directorial venture of the famous filmmaker who passed away last month. More than SRK and Katrina, people want to see 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' for Yash Ji.
We will have to wait for few more days to find out who wins the final battle, but there is somebody who will be a winner in any case. And that is Katrina Kaif as she played the lead in both the films.
