Jagan's visit to Tirupati sparks religion row

Hyderabad: Already battling corruption cases, YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy now finds himself in a new controversy as the authorities in the Tirupati temple say he has violated norms.

Jagan is a practising Christian but did not sign a mandatory declaration that Non-Hindus have to sign before entering the shrine.

The YSR Congress chief visited the temple on Wednesday while campaigning for upcoming bypolls in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the temple officials, even after they approached Jagan to sign the declaration, he refused to adhere to the norms.

Reacting to the incident, the opposition has alleged disrespect to temple rules and faith by Jagan.

However, the YSR Congress has refuted the allegations saying Jagan's religion is being used by the opposition parties for political gains in the bypolls.
