New Delhi: Two days after police officials were caught touching convicted minister Bibi Jagir Kaur in jail, Punjab Jail Minister SS Phillaur denied any such treatment being meted out to Kaur.
"I haven't seen the video of policemen touching Jagir Kaur's feet. How can I comment on it," said Phillaur.
Uniformed officers were seen bowing down to touch Kaur's feet and transporting her in an air-conditioned car to Kapurthala Jail in a clear violation of jail norms.
Amid reports that VIP facilities including an LCD TV were being provided to Bibi Jagir Kaur, lodged in Theh Kanjla Jail in Kapurthala in connection with
the abduction case of her daughter, a top Punjab Prisons official on Tuesday also ordered an inquiry into it.
Punjab DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant also insisted that rules will be followed in the case. "I have ordered an inquiry and deputed an IG rank officer to conduct the probe. He will visit the jail and go into all the reports (talk of VIP treatment to Kaur). I don't tolerate any non-sensical stuff and we don't want any adverse publicity. Rules will have to be followed," Kant said.
Kant further said that he had also shot off a letter to Kapurthala jail superintendent, S P Khanna, asking him to strictly follow the rules.
That's not all, they also ignored rules once inside the jail by let numerous people to visit her inside jail.
Mediapersons who captured these images on camera were manhandled by jail staff.
Kaur was found guilty last week of forcing her daughter Harpreet to undergo an abortion in 2001. Harpreet had died later.
Jagir Kaur is the former chief of the Sikh body Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee and is believed to be close to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
