Jaipur: This Navratri Jaipur's former royals haven't just put on their dancing shoes but are also in the mood to dish out a garba lesson or two.
With new age Garba melodies resounding in the 300-year-old palace's courtyard, this is where the old and the new come together.
And for the uninitiated, Maharani Padmini Devi, member of the royal family, explains what the celebration is all about.
“The garba is an earthen pot and we place a diya in it which symbolises the Mother Goddess. We believe that the Goddess herself comes to dance during the garba. So everyone must participate,” she says.
And here's how the dance has changed in the princely quarters over the past few years.
Diya Kumari, member of the Jaipur royal family, says, “Nowadays there is a lot more social aspect to it and of course there's a lot more dancing than there was earlier.”
