Jammu: BJP workers target J&K minister's car

New Delhi: BJP workers blockaded Jammu & Kashmir finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather's vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.

All attempts by the bjp workers to hoist the Triclour at Srinagar's Lal Chowk may have been foiled but the event was not violence free.

BJP workers were lathicharged outside the outside the party office in Jammu after they blockaded the vehicle of J&K finance minister.

The incident happened immediately after Sushma Swaraj and Jaitley held a press conference.

The minister confirmed the incident but maintained that none of the BJP worker attacked him.

As Rather's cavalcade was heading towards the Raj Bhawan for "At Home" function, the BJP activists, who were coming out of the BJP headquarters after attending a public rally addressed by senior party leaders Sushma Swaraj, Arun

Jaitley, Anant Kumar and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president Anurag Thakur, intercepted the minister's vehicle at Kachi Chawani area of the city, they said.

BJP activists hit the vehicle and pulled out the state flag, but did not touch the national flag, they said, adding that minister's escort and police swung into action and pushed the workers aside.

Rather was inside the vehicle at the time of incident but nobody could see him due to tinted glasses, official sources said.

Reacting to the incident, Rather told PTI on the sidelines of a function at Raj Bhawan "it is minor incident. They did not attack me."

Playing down the incident, he said that state flag was not torn by the BJP activists but an attempt was made in this regard.

No arrest was made even as there was huge deployment of police personnel who were headed by the SP city and SHO.
