Srinagar: The Amarnath land transfer dispute in Jammu and Kashmir shows no sign of letting up after the meeting between an all-party delegation sent to Jammu by the Centre and the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti (SASS) failed to make any headway.

Even though the curfew in Jammu has been relaxed between 5000 IST and 1200 IST hours on Sunday, SASS has made it clear that the protests will continue till 100 acres of Baltal forestland is restored to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

“If they (Centre) want to hold talks, we’ll certainly be there. We are fighting for the land and will continue to do so till the time we get it,” SASS spokesperson Leela Karan Sharma told reporters.

With SASS agreeing to continue talks, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who led the delegation, still has hope left to resolve the problem.

The protestors had agreed to come to the talk table after its demand that the Congress, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC) not be present was accepted.

While PDP had readily agreed to the request, Congress and NC were slightly reluctant.

“If our absence ensures that the talks take place then we don’t have to be there,” PDP chide Mehbooba Mufti said.

But SASS has said that it will continue with the agitation even as the talks go on.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the All Party Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, has now threatened that Hurriyat, along with region’s fruit growers, will march across the Line of Control into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and bring essential goods to Kashmir. The fruit growers are protesting that the blockade is ruining their harvest.

“Our slogan will be to break the blockade, reunite Kashmir and cross the blood-stained line and sort out the differences. We will take our fruits and farm produces to other markets through Muzaffarabad,” Mirwaiz Omar Farooq said.
