Jammu: The 300-kms Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only surface link between Kashmir and the rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic on Saturday due to a landslide at Panthal, 174 kms from here.
The movement of traffic was stopped on the highway from both sides at Panthal at around 0930 hours (IST) after landslides took place there following heavy rains in the area, police sources said here.
They said Border Roads Organisation (BRO), which maintains the national highway, has already deployed its men and machines at the site for road clearance.
However, clearance operation can only be undertaken after weather conditions improve in the area, the sources said adding it cannot be estimated how much time it will take to open the highway.
