New Delhi: More than 100 works in oil, watercolour, drawings and serigraphs — that’s a collection of what artist Jatin Das produced while travelling across the globe spanning 30 years.
What you might notice in this spread of works is his keen eye and the use of a particular medium for a particular place to suit the landscape of that country.
For instance, assuming that Cairo’s landscape was overwhelming, he used brown paper to bring it out.
The wheat colour Jerusalem stone is why he used yellow paper. To portray the fluid Sega dancers in Mauritius, he used watercolours and opted for charred wood for his Christ series in Russia.
"When I stayed in Russia, there was a burnt church. So I scooped wood out of it," says Das.
To comment on the art of capturing the right moment, who better than a photographer?
"Looking at some of the body language and expressions, it's as if it is captured by the camera," says photographer Raghu Rai.
Showing after a decade in the Capital, if you are an ardent art geek - this Jatin Das exhibition at the Lalit Kala Akademi is not to be missed.
