Hisar: Thousands of Jats have blocked the Chandigarh-Hisar Highway for the second consecutive day on Tuesday demanding reservation in government jobs for their community. Haryana Roadways has cancelled its services in all Jat-dominated areas of the state as a precautionary measure.
Curfew has been imposed in Hisar and Army called out to help the district administration in maintaining peace in the area.
On Monday, protestors had torched a bus and three other vehicles. The situation worsened after police resorted to firing to clear the highway in which one person was killed and several injured. The Haryana government has registered a case of murder (section 302 of Indian Penal Code) against the Hisar Superintendent of Police Subhash Yadav and other officials.
HP Singh, national Vice-President of All India Jat Sangharsh Samiti, threatened to disturb the Commonwealth Games if their demand for reservation is not granted.
