Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday filed a defamation complaint at the Principal Sessions Court here against PMK leader Dr S Ramadoss, and the editor, printer, publisher and reporter of Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan. City Public Prosecutor M L Jagan filed the criminal complaint on Jayalalithaa’s behalf.
In its issue dated August 1 last, the magazine carried a news item relating to the recent stay of the CM in Kodanad, Nilgiris district, the complainant said. Ramadoss, the fifth accused, in his interview to the magazine reporter, had alleged that the CM was inaccessible to bureaucrats and other government officials during her stay at Kodanad. The report was fallacious, defamatory and without basis, the complaint said, as the CM had discharged all her duties. It sought punishment for magazine publisher Ashokan, printer S Madhavan, editor Ra Kannan and reporter K Raja Thiruvengadam under Secs 500 and 501, and Ramadoss under Sec 500 of IPC.
Meanwhile, Principal Sessions Judge P Kalaiarasan issued summons to nine accused in an earlier defamation case filed by the CM against India Today and asked them to appear before him on September 25.
