CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced that the project report would soon be prepared for laying the Chennai Peripheral Road connecting Ennore port and Mahabalipuram at a cost of Rs 1,420 crore.
The 162-km long CPR will pass through Singaperumal Koil, Sriperumbudur, Tiruvallur, Thamaraipakkam, Periyapalayam, Puduvayal and end at Kattupalli, the CM said in the State Assembly. The new project will be taken up for execution by the Highways Department. New roads will be laid over a stretch of 83.20 km and 78.60 km of existing roads will be upgraded.
In yet another announcement for Chennai metropolitan city the CM said a Road Grid would be set up with the objective of developing the areas located along the new roads that are to be laid and the existing roads that are to be upgraded. This will be implemented as a pilot project in the area where the Chennai Outer Ring Road will come up, she added. The CM said that such initiatives will ease the traffic congestion in urban areas and will help commuters reach their destination in the minimum time possible.
