Jaya's DA case hearing resumes tomorrow

Bangalore: A special court will on Tuesday resume hearing in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case filed against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

However, the AIADMK chief is unlikely to appear before the court.

The court had on October 21 adjourned the hearing to November 8, as recording of Jayalalithaa's statement on 1,000-odd questions framed in the case remained inconclusive during the two-day hearing.

Sources close to Jayalalithaa said she would move an application before the court on Tuesday seeking postponing of the hearing to a later date, an option given to her by the Supreme Court while dismissing her plea for personal exemption last week.

The apex court had asked the trial court to complete her deposition in one or two sittings and adjourn the November 8 hearing to another date.

The disproportionate assets case involves the alleged accumulation of wealth worth over Rs 66 crore by Jayalalithaa between 1991 and 1996.

The case proceedings were shifted out of Tamil Nadu by the apex court on her plea fearing that she might be denied a fair trial in the state then ruled by her arch rival DMK chief Karunanidhi, whom she accused of implicating her in a false case.
