Chennai: Tamil Nadu Opposition leader, J Jayalalithaa's woes only seem to get bigger by the day.
Following notices issued to demolish her 59 acre Kodanadu estate in the Nilgiris, a new issue has now sprung up.
The President of Anna Nagar panchayat — behind the estate — has issued a showcause notice to Jayalalithaa, asking her why a road through the estate has been blocked by a gate and why toll is being collected from residents.
An enquiry by the Assistant District Collector into this issue only resulted in blows between the AIADMK lawyers and party workers on one side and Anna Nagar residents on the other.
Now the Anna Nagar Panchayat President, Ponn Doss says he is scared for his life. "They have threatened me with dire consequences if I don't withdraw my complaint," says he.
However, AIADMK party members refute Ponn Doss' claims and say the DMK is instigating the Panchayat President. They also say that the road is part of the estate and is not the only route to Anna Nagar.
Opinions abound that Amma is currently camping in Kodanadu to save the estate from being demolished.
Meanwhile, Jayalalithaa, who had publicly proclaimed that the estate didn't belong to her, hasn't uttered a word since Karunanidhi came out with documents to prove her ownership of the estate. And with this new heap on her plate, the rivalry between her and Karunanidhi is only going to intensify.
