New Delhi: In the presence of veterans actor Sharmila Tagore and singer Asha Bhosle, artist Jayasri Burman's solo show of about 140 works was organised by Gallery Art Alive, with the added attraction of a special art book launch.
But despite the grand scale of the show which covers three levels of the Lalit Kala Academy in Delhi, the special guests made it a point to see as many of the paintings as they could.
"All her paintings have a story. And in all of them, the character is a woman. There is a painting, My Mythical World - where the entire world is held by a woman in the shape of a mermaid," says Sharmila Tagore.
"You see her paintings and realise that she wants to fly. She can neither fly nor swim but that feeling comes across," says Asha Bhosle.
Jayasri's work does give a tapestry kind effect but there's something about the perfect timing of the show. It is happening at a time when the Kumbh is on at Haridwar and this show is all about God.
Titled 'A Mythical Universe', it has portraits of Ganga, Parvati, the divine couple, Radha and many more.
But what makes these works different is the intricate detailing.
Not an inch is left without a stroke. No wonder it took her three years to put it all together. Catch Jayasri's show on till the end of this month.
