CM reluctant, but JD(S) MLAs favour power shift

New Delhi: While the power play in Karnataka has reached a stalemate with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy refusing to hand over power to BJP and kingmaker H D Deve Gowda acting difficult, a majority of JD(S) MLAs seem to be getting second thoughts.
According to agency reports, many MLAs are reportedly in favour of the party handing over the Chief Minister's post to the BJP as agreed upon to avert a mid-term election in the state.
Quoting top party sources, news agencies report the MLAs voiced their opinion in the prolonged JD (S) Legislature Party (JDLP) meeting convened by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy at his official residence 'Krishna'.
While the two coalition partners remain at loggerheads over the power transfer issue, the MLAs said in one voice the state should not be “imposed with a mid-term election” as it was not in the interest of the party.
This came after the legislators were asked to express their 'frank opinion' on the issue. The MLAs reportedly appealed to the party leaders to tread cautiously.
The MLAs are understood to have said in the meeting that the party’s stupendous success in the local body polls shouldn’t be the yardstick for the situation at the state level as the results were “not the real barometer” for Assembly polls.
However, the legislators also expressed unhappiness over the attitude of BJP leaders who they say were indulging in 'tail-twisting' to force JD(S) leaders to hand over power.
They wanted the party to get clear assurances from the BJP to contain its leaders from Bellary who unleashed a 'tirade' against Kumaraswamy.
They also asked the Chief Minister not to take any hasty action on the resignation letters submitted by BJP ministers and instead wait for final outcome of the October five National Executive Meeting.
