New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee has accepted the resignation of five JD(U) MP's. The MP's had submitted their resignation on Friday in protest against the shooting of Rahul Raj in a bus by the Mumbai Police.
The move came after the autopsy report on Rahul Raj revealed that one of the bullets that hit him was fired from close range, throwing a question on the Mumbai Police's version of an encounter death.
JD(U) Parliamenty Party leader Prabhunath Singh made the announcement after meeting Mr Chatterjee at his residence, along with four of the five JD(U) MPs.
Somnath Chatterjee had invited them over for talks. All MP's, except George Fernandes who was unwell, attended the meeting where the Speaker asked them to reconsider their decision.
However, the MP's were adamant. In a lighter vein, Chatterjee said they would be missed in the House, but in the end he accepted their resignation.
The resignations are expected to put pressure on Lalu Prasad's RJD and Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Jan Sakti Party.
