Jeev ends Volvo China Open tied 10th

Chengdu: Three birdies in the last five holes saw Jeev Milkha Singh squeeze into the top-10 for the first time in 2011 at the Volvo China Open, an event he won back in 2006.

Jeev, who after being second at the end of two rounds struggled through the third and it continued for the front nine of the final round before finding three birdies on the back nine.

He shot 68 in the final round to end tied 10th with a total of 17-under 271 for the week at the Luxehills International Country Club.

Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium cruised to his first European Tour victory as he won by four shots with a final round six-under 66 and a total of 24-under 264.

Pablo Martin of Belgium carded a final round 63 with 10 birdies against one bogey, to tie for second place with Dane Soren Kjeldsen (66), Ireland's Peter Lawrie (68) and Kiwi Danny Lee (65).

Shiv Kapur shot a two-under 70 with five birdies and three bogeys to finish at eight-under 276 to tie for 59th.

Jeev was one-under for the first nine and 14-under for the week at that stage in a low-scoring tournament. But then birdies on 14th, 16th and 18th saw him get into top-10. It was his first top-10 since his tied seventh at the Hong Kong Open in November last year.

"I think I played well this week. The birdies not falling in the third round made the difference but I am being patient because the game is coming around," said Jeev.

The big-hitting Colsaerts, who turned pro 10 years, finally won with a 66. Last season he was 67th on The Race to Dubai and topping the driving distances. He became only the second Belgian to win on The European Tour - the first was Phillipe Touissant in 1974.

One clear of Han Chang-won overnight, Colsaerts showed few signs of nerves as he birdied the first, third and seventh in an outward 33.

By then Martin, the Alfred Dunhill Championship winner had emerged as the main challenger, firing ten birdies in his nine under 63 to set the clubhouse target. Colsaerts pulled further clear with three birdies in four holes from the 12th.

Martin played with Christian Nilsson (64) and Danny Willett (65) in a group that shot a remarkable 24 under par total between them.
