Click to play videoNew Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its order on the fate of Shayan Munshi and 18 other hostile witnesses for changing their statements in the Jessica Lall murder case.
Earlier the Delhi police had demanded that the witnesses be tried both for perjury and cheating but the bigger shock was the courts direction to investigate the conduct of the court officers and lawyers in this case.
The High Court will decide their fate on the issue of perjury and cheating on Friday.
But the fate of court officers and lawyers involved with the case at the trial stage now hangs in the balance.
Justice R S Sodhi has asked the Delhi police to file a report on the alleged nexus between these officers and the accused after Justice Sodhi received an anonymous letter alleging foul play in the trial court.
This is not the first time that the role of the prosecution has been put under the scanner by the High Court even in its December 20 order the court had raised questions on the prosecution's role.
Justice R S Sodhi has demanded that Public prosecutor in the High Court Mukta Gupta clarify by April 26 if attempts were made by the lawyers and court officers at the trial stage to favour the accused in any manner.
Justice Sodhi has said, "I want categorical clarifications if any attempt by lawyers, court officers or any other senior officer were made to conduct the proceedings of the case in favour of the accused."
First the police officers then the hostile witnesses and now the court officers - Manu Sharma might be behind bars but it seems the High Court is hell bent on punishing all those who tried to sabotage the process of justice.
