Doubting the kind of activities that went on at Tamarind Court, Jethmalani suggested that Jessica became a victim of shady activities and not a brawl as is widely believed.
Refuting the prosecution's theory that Manu Sharma shot Jessica because she refused him a drink, Jethmalani said, "It’s more an offence of jealousy where your sexual manhood is challenged. Jessica wasn't murdered for denying something she did not have (liquor) but for denying something she had”.
Defence relying on the prosecutor’s argument to prove his case, strange as it may sound, this is what happened on Thursday.
Jethmalani quoted the trial court’s prosecutor to say that had Manu shot in a fit of rage he would have either killed the waiter who refused him a drink or Malani Ramani with whom he had a verbal duel.
The senior criminal lawyer maintained that it was the still unknown tall Sikh man in a red turban who shot Jessica, after he was refused "something" by the model. Jethmalani further said that the identity of this Sikh man was deliberately kept in the dark.
"Jethmalani has asked that the SIT reports should be made public because they contain facts which the prosecution has not revealed deliberately,” High Court lawyer, R D Rana said.
Jethmalani’s opening argument was that Manu Sharma wasn’t even present at the scene of crime, next he argued that a tall Sikh gentleman had shot the model dead and now the very murder motive has been turned on its head.
The Jessica Lall trial has a new bizarre twist everyday, the courtroom is abuzz and the question doing the rounds now is what new disclosure does the case have in store.
