They may not be looking forward to festival bonuses, but are certainly relieved to get their jobs back.
It was a night to remember for the 1,900 employees of Jet Airways, as Chairperson Naresh Goyal reversed his decision to lay off employees and took them back on board.
Goyal said that his conscience did not allow him to just look at the economics.
It was official now as Friday dawned, for many like Kulp, a Jet employee, it was time for celebrations.
“I was at home sleeping and when my mom told me the news, I thought she was joking,” says Kulp.
Goyal's emotional apology may have won many a hearts back but the trust factor has taken a major hit.
Employee, Jet Airways Gilles Singh, a part of the airline industry for over two years says that in this time of downturn, its more prudent to explore other alternatives.
Gilles says, “We are feeling a little insecure now. Many are even thinking of switching jobs. I might just get back to photography.
It was perhaps to quell such insecurities that Goyal met airline employees in Mumbai on Friday afternoon and assured them of rejoining with immediate effect. There would also be no change in their salaries.
But at the end of it, it doesn’t matter what had triggered it. In these times of financial rough weather, at least the employees have managed a safe landing.
