Jet proposes salary cut upsets pilots

New Delhi: Barely a month after Jet Airways rolled back the decision to retrench more than 1000 employees, the company proposed up to a 25 per cent salary cut for engineers, pilots and other staff on Sunday.

Starting at the very top, it’s not known how much of a cut company CEO Naresh Goyal himself would take but sources tell CNN-IBN that his top managers will now take home a 25 per cent less salary, while those above the Rs 5 lakh per month pay bracket will face a cut of 10 per cent.

The salaries of employees who draw less than Rs 5 lakh per month would be slashed by 5 per cent.

While engineers and commercial staff have agreed to take the proposed pay cut, pilots have threatened an agitation. They say the Airlines should lay off expatriate pilots if it has to cut costs.

The pilots’ union is likely to meet on Monday to decide further action.

In the cost cutting exercise, only those earning less than Rs 75 thousand a month will be left untouched.
