Ahmedabad: Gujarat Police have arrested Shiva Solanki, the nephew of BJP MP from Junagarh Dinubhai Boghabhai Solanki, in the murder case of Right to Information activist Amit Jethwa. Shiva Solanki is the main accused in the murder case and was arrested near Rajkot airport on Tuesday by a team of Ahmedabad police.
"We have arrested Shiva Solanki, from near the Rajkot airport while he was on his way to Mumbai," Police Crime Branch chief Mohan Jha said.
Jethwa was killed outside the Gujarat High Court on July 20.
Jethwa's father Bhikubhai Jethwa has been alleging that Dinubhai Boghabhai Solanki was involved in the murder. He had said that Solanki had threatened him and his son many times threatened over phone and also in public.
The RTI activist was reportedly coming out of a building after meeting his lawyer and about to enter his vehicle when he was fired upon. He had filed several petitions in the Gujarat High Court against the forest department and had also filed a a public interest litigation (PIL) on the illegal mining in the Gir forests of Junagadh district which is considered the last abode of Asiatic lions in the world. Jethwa was also the president of Gir Nature Youth Club.
Last month, police arrested a constable Bahadursinh Dhirubha Wadher from Junagadh district and one Sanjay Chauhan in connection with the murder. A couple of days later, Pachan Shiva, one of the two motorcycle-borne assailants who had shot at Jethwa was also arrested.
