Jewellery theft: Migrant labourers held

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Further buttressing the police claim that inter-state burglary gangs have seriously begun eyeing the State, the Rural police on Monday nabbed three migrant labourers in connection with the burglary at a jewellery in Balaramapuram in which gold ornaments worth around ` one crore were stolen. Deepu Sarma, 26, and Bhagu Mandal, 30, both belonging to Jharkhand and Arjun Singh, 32, of Bihar were arrested from the Central Railway Station here around 2 pm.
According to the police, the trio were involved in the conspiracy and provided help for the eight-member team who carried out the robbery. The police, however, could not trace the real culprits.
 “We are in search of the eight-member team. We assume that they have fled to other states,” said Neyyattinkara Circle Inspector B S Sajimon.
The arrested were manual labourers who concentrated on the Kovalam area. The police said that they had provided all help, including accommodation, for the eight-member team.
 The burglary took place at Sona Jewellery, near Balaramapuram police station, on April 29. The burglars sneaked into the shop by cutting the iron grills when the shop remained closed in the night.
The theft took place just after hours a house near the City Police Commissioner’s office was robbed and 100 sovereigns of gold taken away by burglars.
The police had later arrested three persons in connection with this incident.
