Ranchi: The needle of suspicion in the murder of activist nun Sister Valsa, is now pointing at the coal mafia after her family claimed she received death threats.
There's also a political angle that is emerging.
"This might be a case of political killing. It will be probed into," said Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda.
Sister's Valsa's murder has taken a political colour in Jharkhand with both the ruling coalition and opposition making allegations and counter allegations. She was murdered in Pakur district of Jharkhand by a group of 40 unidentified men who dragged her out of her house and axed her to death.
"We have not received any letter. She was killed using an axe. The modus operandi is same as that of Naxals," said Amarnath Khanna, Superintendent of Police, Pakur.
Some say the needle of suspicion also points to the strong coal mafia, for Sister Valsa was a well-known social activist who in her fight for tribal rights forced one coal company to shut down.
"Murder is a big crime. It must be investigated," said former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi.
Sister Valsa even gave political outfits a tough time, sometimes causing even JMM chief Shibu Shoren to leave public meetings midway if she so desired.
"I have come to know about it, but have not talked to anyone till now," said Soren.
Sister Valsa's brutal murder has raised many questions and only an independent probe can bring out the truth.
