Ranchi: Jharkhand Police inspector Francis Induwar's son Abhishek has vowed to hit back at his father's killers.
Abhishek says he will grow up, join the police force and kill the Naxals, who beheaded his father. His anger is shared by many in the Jharkhand Police force who now want better protection. They say they don't want to see another policeman meeting the same fate as Induwar.
"You have killed my father. I will join the police and will kill you people (Maoists)," said Abhishek Induwar at his home in Ranchi on Wednesday.
The promise of revenge is perhaps too heavy for the young shoulders of Francis Induvar's seven-year-old son, whose anger is directed at the Naxalites suspected to have beheaded his father who was laid to rest at Harmu in Ranchi.
Some of Abhishek's anger is reflected among the Induwar's colleagues.
"It will be an eye for an eye now. They will not go to jail now. They will be killed by us," said a group of police personnel who attended the last rites of Induwar in Ranchi.
But mingling with the sorrow at the funeral was fear. Each officer and jawan of Jharkhand Police present knew within their hearts that anyone of them could be the next target in the face of inadequate security.
Young Abhishek's promise does not find an echo in these policemen who fear for their lives.
"We are prepared to work but not at the cost of our lives," said another police officer.
The officers had even tried to block Induwar's autopsy as a tactic to demand security.
It took the Home Minister's intervention for the autopsy to go ahead.
With a sense of insecurity and fear it will be tough for the leadership, both at the Centre and the state to motivate policemen, who are their foot soldiers in the war against Naxalites.
"We will talk to them," Inspector General of Police, Jharkhand, BB Pradhan said.
Jharkhand government has paid Rs 10 lakh as compensation and a job to one of Induwar's family. But who will answer why was he beheaded or guarantee that another policeman will not meet the same fate?
