Ranchi: The seizure of a US-made assault rifle from two men in a jungle bordering Bihar in Jharkhand has created a flutter in the state with the police saying they would investigate if a network of suppliers of foreign-made weapons were reaching out to Maoists.
The police have confiscated the M16 rifle. M16 has been the primary service rifle of the US armed forces since the Vietnam War.
Apart from the rifle, the Jharkhand police have also recovered a bulletproof jacket, Rs 28 lakh, live cartridges for AK56 and 47, mobile phones and imported pistols.
An NIA team has also reached the state.
