New Delhi: All four of the accused in the Jind gangrape case have been arrested, police said on Sunday. The accused included a woman relative of one of the accused, who, said the police, stood guard while the incident took place.
The girl set herself on fire on Saturday evening, unable to take the trauma of the incident. She succumbed to over 95 per cent burn injuries at a hospital. This is the ninth rape case to come to light in Haryana in the past one month, an average of two cases per week. And a majority of these took place in Jind district alone.
The Haryana government has formed a three-member committee to look into the incidents. Meanwhile, a Khap panchayat member CNN-IBN spoke to regarding the rising rate of crimes against women, gave the bizarre explanation that girls should be married at the age of 16 to prevent rapes. According to him, early marriage would help girls satisfy their sexual needs and thus prevent rapes.
