New Delhi: Seven security personnel were on Tuesday swept away by an avalanche near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara, Kashmir, which include five Army and two BSF men.

Men from HAWS (High Altitude Warfare School), Gulmarg have been rushed to the location. However, low visibility has made it difficult for the Army to conduct the rescue operation.

Snow avalanche hit a village near Kupwara at 7:30 am on Tuesday. Some villages in the vicinity are also feared to be affected by the avalanche.

Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) has declared higher reaches of Kashmir Valley, especially areas falling close to the Line of Control, as avalanche prone in view of the heavy snowfall.
