Sopore: A fierce gunbattle between alleged militants and security forces is on since the last 12 hours in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir. Two CRPF personnel, an Army Jawan and two cops have been injured in the encounter. Police sources said that two top militant commanders have been trapped in Shallipora village and the forces are retaliating to their firing. The gunbattle started on Saturday afternoon and resumed again on Sunday morning.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Chanakhan locality of Sopore, 52 kms from Srinagar, following information about presence of militants in the area, police said on Saturday. As the security forces were closing in on the location of militants, the ultras opened fire, they said.
Further details of the incident are awaited. Militants on Friday opened fire on an Army convoy and at a prominent hotel on the outskirts of Srinagar killing a bellboy and injuring two others in the first terror attack in Srinagar in May, 2011.
