New Delhi: Srinagar police on Friday night arrested nine Jaish-e-Mohammad militants in connection with the seven blasts that rocked different parts of Srinagar on Friday. Two of the arrested are key suspects in the blasts.
"All of the nine arrested belong to Jaish-e-Mohammed and they are the ones responsible for the serial blasts on Friday," DGP, Srinagar, Gopal Sharma said.
Five people were killed and 37 others were injured in the serial blasts. The injured included 27 civilians and 10 security personnels.
The attacks took place at Exchange Road, Magarmal Bagh, Hari Singh High Street, Batamaloo, Dalgate, Sekidafar Chowk and Bhorikadal, police officials said. The worst affected was Badyari Chowk in Dalgate where three persons were killed and seven injured.
"A little while before the last grenade blast took place at 1915 hrs at Bhorikadal, the Srinagar police got a tip off and began interrogations. Soon, the police seized a minibus," Sharma said.
The police arrested one person and recovered ammunition from the minibus. Sharma said that the police recovered 30 UBGL grenades, 8 hand grenades, an AK magazine with 45 rounds and a timer device.
Sharma added that the interrogations into the blasts are on and some more arrests are expected.
