Sopore (Srinagar): Sopore Degree College principal in Jammu and Kashmir has been threatened with death by an unidentified moral brigade. They want Islamic dress code to be imposed in the college.
This has given way to a new debate in the college and many girls have already given in to the threat.
“I agree with it but we could come in scarf and dupattas too but they said abaya (An overgarment worn by Muslim women. It covers their whole body except for eyes) is compulsory and there is no entry to college without it,” says a student.
While some girls believe things should be forced upon them, there are some who say it is a part of Muslim religion and should be followed.
“They are not supposed to force us too much. I was wearing hijab (veil) before too but they forced us to wear it,” says Sadaf.
“To cove up is our religion. If they are not comfortable with it they should stay home,” says Yasmeen.
The college principal Mohammad Ashraf Peer was beaten up and given a warning that he must make the burkha compulsory in the college.
