Srinagar: A senior doctor in Srinagar has written to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after the state Health Minister, Sham Lal Sharma, reportedly hurled verbal abuses at him, calling him a "beast with a beard" and a "fanatic".

Dr Mohammad Ashraf Bhat has accused the minister of hurting his religious sentiments.

The doctor was visiting the minister over a grievance when he was subject to the verbal abuse. He said that the minister had abused him several times in the past in front of people in his office in civil secretariat.

The minister, however, has refuted the charges, saying Bhat was simply cooking up a story.

"The doctor is lying and we had sealed his relative's clinic. That's why he has come up with this story."
