Jammu: Actor Sanjay Dutt in his visit to the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi is getting a bit more than what he asked for.
“Mata Vaishnodevi has called me and I will definitely go,” said Dutt.
Dutt, who was given the Jammu & Kashmir government's bulletproof car to travel from Jammu to Katra, has now set tongues wagging.
How proper is it for the government to accord special status to a man serving sentence?
The administration in defence says an official vehicle with beacon promises security and quick movement as well. They further say every celebrity is provided with such vehicles and police escort in the state. The police have however issued an apology.
“I think it’s a mistake,” said IG, J&K Police, S P Vaid.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked for an inquiry into the incident.
“Without the policy of the government such treatment has been given to the criminal. We definitely condemn it and demand that an inquiry should be instituted,” said BJP Leader, Nirmal Singh.
But legal experts say there is no law that bars the government from providing security cover to convicts.
