Jammu: The sound of the gun can rest a bit. It's the sound of music which is booming in and around the Valley.

It's going to be music 24 x 7 in Jammu and Kashmir now.

Reliance has launched its first-ever FM service in the Valley and in the Jammu region, the BIG 92.7 FM.

Prasar Bharti, too, started its Rainbow FM last week.

And with FM venturing into Jammu and Kashmir, many hope that it could work as a cure for several ills in the trouble-torn state.

"The people of Jammu and Kashmir are so stressed out. We just want to ease them and make them feel good," says radio jockey Shveta Sharma.

"I am really excited," says Sheena Paddha, a student and FM listener from Jammu.

"Whenever I used to go to cities like Delhi and Mumbai, I would just switch on my radio and listen to the good music these channel used to play 24 x 7. And I always used to think when will this happen in my place," she adds.

While Big 92.7 FM is working towards tapping the local favour of Dogri and Kashmiri music, it is also updating listeners about the traffic situation and things like power cuts.

"Radio can change your life. From the time you wake up in the morning, till you sleep, we can be a partner. We have the local pulse here, from traffic jams to power cuts everything," says Cluster Head Big 92.7 FM Jagmeet Bahri.

Rainbow FM, meanwhile, is trying to connect the remote and distant parts of Jammu and Kashmir with mainstream India.

"Jammu and Kashmir ka terrain difficult hai. Is waqt J&K FM radio chal rahe hain. J&K ko mainstream ke saath jodh diya hai. Youth pe impact hai (The area is difficult. J&K and Ladakh need 100 per cent coverage. We are connecting these parts of the state to mainstream and there is major impact on the youth)," station director of All India Radio, Jammu, T Angmo, says.
