New Delhi: In Jammu, people have come out on the streets protesting the power crisis, the authorities said that it will take another two days to restore power. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday directed disconnection of power supply to the VIP grid including his own residence to divert the scarce electricity for maintaining essential services.
Srinagar has been without power for over 24 hours now as heavy rains affected transmission lines in the Pir Panjal ranges and other grid stations.
Government officials said that special kitchen has been set up for people and the government has instructed us to provide facilities free of cost, adding that the snowfall is natural and that the blocked routes may open by tomorrow.
At least 100 vehicles are stranded on Srinagar-Jammu highway. After Saturday's heavy snowfall, things have really frozen in Srinagar, with mercury recording -5.5 degree Celsius and in Gulmarg it is -17 degree Celsius.
But that's not the only worry that Srinagar residents face, the worry is that of power connection. There's been absolutely no connectivity for the last 24 hours, and the prospect of spending another dark night is still hovering around with Power Development authorities telling us that it's going to take another 2 days before they are able to restore electricity to its full.
The Power Development authorities said that there have been at least 6 to 7 damages that have taken place on the 400 KV main line that comes from Northern grid to Kashmir, and another the 122 Kishenpur Farmpore transmission line is also affected.
The authorities have pressed some men in a chopper so that they can do the repair work; however that is also going to take some time.
