Breswana: CNN-IBN Real Heroes in partnership with the Reliance Foundation is an honour that recognises ordinary people who are making an extraordinary contribution to society. Real Hero Sabbah Haaji from Jammu and Kashmir is giving the gift of free education in a village called Breswana, literally at the back of beyond.

An NRI, a young content writer and a globe trotter, like any other 26-year-old Sabbah Haaji loved her city life. But four years ago, a tragedy made her change track and Sabah returned to her ancestral home in Jammu and Kashmir to a place called Breswana.

Breswana and the surrounding areas had few schools and the dropout rate was high. In 2009, Sabbah set up a small school out of the Haji cottage with just 15 children and one teacher. Five years later, the Haji Public School has more than 150 children with two new centres in Parsholla and Shadiwan. Children whose ancestors never got an education have a new shot at life.

In this terror prone part of Kashmir, Sabbah is nurturing hope.
