Srinagar: It's time for celebration at Abdullah's residence after the Congress endorsed Omar Abdullah as the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
The patriarch of the National Conference Dr Farooq Abdullah cut a cake to celebrate the moment but he had a piece of advice for his son.
“He should give the people good governance,” Farooq said.
As the news of Omar Abdullah being chosen as CM-elect became clearer, hundreds of supporters stood outside the Abdullahs’ residence to celebrate but on the very stretch beyond their road, the PDP vowed to provide a strong Opposition.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said, “We wish him (Omar) luck but he should carry the healing touch policy started by the previous coalition.”
The Abdullahs will be back in power after six long years and this time with the Young Turk being given the top charge, the youth are expecting a clear departure from the dull and routine politics in the Valley.
Going by the prevalent mood, the younger generation is definitely enthused by Omar's elevation.
