Ranchi: The Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) party workers on Monday protested outside the state Assembly demanding rehabilitation of those displaced during the construction of the Bokaro Steel Plant.
One of the party workers died after the police lathicharged them as they tried to break through a barricade set up outside the Assembly.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, a JVM (Prajatantric) MLA tore off his shirt in the Assembly to press for their demands. JVM (Prajatantric) MLA frm Bokaro, Samaresh Singh, said that his fight is against the state government which has been ignoring the demands of those displaced due to industrialisation.
"(Jharkhand Chief Minister) Arjun Munda is a liar. If the Chief Minister has no concern for the people of his own state, then we will be forced to break the decorum of the House," said Samaresh Singh when asked about his conduct inside the Assembly
Singh's act prompted Speaker CP Singh to adjourn the House for an hour.
The Opposition party has demanded the setting up of a commission for displacement, regularizing para-teachers, returning land acquired from people of Nagri village situated on the outskirts of Ranchi.
The people displaced during the making of Bokaro Steel Plant have been agitating for rehabilitation and jobs for several decades.
