J'khand seeks Bengal aid to hunt naxals

New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal will visit Jharkhand on Monday to take stock of situation arising out of the killing of a JMM MP by naxalites.

The Centre has already sought a report from the state government on the killing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP Sunil Mahato and two of his bodyguards at Bukaria town in East Singhbhum district on Sunday night, where the MP was invited as chief guest for a football match,

CNN-IBN spoke to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand Madhu Koda who said that the state is on high alert after the shoot out and that the killers may have fled from the state.

“We have alerted the entire state and we have sent the entire police force to the shootout site. We have sealed all borders. We have also asked for the West Bengal government to help us arrest these terrorists. They have always targeted the MLA's and government officials, especially the police force. They had planned out the entire incident and the police was caught unaware. We have spoken to the home ministry officials,” said Koda.

The Chief Minister is likely to share information about the murder with the Home Ministry on Tuesday.

Union Home Ministry is understood to have asked the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Jharkhand to submit a report by Monday evening.

"The government will continue to pursue its multi-pronged strategy to fight the naxals," a Home Ministry official said.

Home ministry sources have told also CNN-IBN that Mahato could have been killed in retaliation against the Jharkhand government's crackdown on Naxalites in the recent past.

The Centre is also in constant touch with the Jharkhand government and has assured it all assistance to deal with the situation.
