Jaipur: What was expected to infuse a new high among dissident Rajasthan leaders, a concoction allegedly opium-based, is now brewing trouble for the former foreign affairs minister Jaswant Singh and a few BJP MLAs.
A local court in Jodhpur has now directed Rajasthan police to inquire into complaint that Jaswant Singh served opium to his guests at a party thrown by him on October 31.
“The court has given us the order to go ahead with the investigations,” said Malam Singh Choudhary, the complainant's lawyer.
Caught in this muddle are three cabinet ministers of the Vasundhara Raje government, Ghanshyam Tiwari, Narpat Singh Razvi and Madan Dilawar and several top BJP leaders.
The common factor amongst them is that they are all rebels to the Chief Minister.
“The government of Rajasthan has an annual theka for opium. It's not an illegal thing in Rajasthan,” said Manvendra Singh BJP MP and Jaswant Singh, son.
In the power struggle brewing between Jaswant Singh and Vasundhara Raje, the opium row has clearly turned the tables on Singh.
Just months after his wife got a case registered against Raje's supporters for depicting her as Goddess Annapurna, Jaswant Singh has now courted trouble not just for himself but for Raje's entire rebel camp.
