Rome: The Rome Film Festival is in full swing and marking India's presence there was filmmaker Anurag Kahsyap's No Smoking starring John Abraham. The director and actor walked the red carpet in Rome on October 24. And don't think for a moment that the film is just about a quit-smoking message. Trust Kashyap to convey multiple meanings.
“It’s also some kind of a metaphor for, I'd been fighting a battle. It's like, I was losing a battle in the country, trying to get a film released and constantly getting banned. It's almost like a battle – wanting to breath or smoke, and people stopping him,” says Kashyap.
John Abraham who plays a compulsive smoker in the film also played the publicist on the red carpet.
“Well I think for one the film's entertaining, simply putting it, it's great entertainment value. On the other hand, there's a social message that goes out by the end of it, saying that cigarette smoking is injurious to health,” says John.
And Although the film is not competing at the festival, audiences seem to be absolutely bowled over by it
“It's very visual but can explain how the people feel they want to smoke but the colours, the photography is very incredible because I repeat it's very visionary. It's a fantastic scene – with all the green in the dark side of the street of India. But I can’t say anything bad because for me it's one of the best movies in this festival,” says cinematography student, Gianni Chiarini.
And for the rest of us, we can all troop to our nearest cinema hall to see what the film is all about.
