New Delhi: The debutant director Rohit Dhawan has reasons to be unhappy about the 'A' certificate that the Censor Board of Film certification has given to his film 'Desi Boyz' but the decision should not be seen with such surprise. The Hindi film industry has definitely come of age but the common movie enthusiast's sensibilities are still more or less same as before. Films are still getting A/UA certificates due to the adult content which are otherwise acceptable in the urban culture at least.
Strippers, gigolos and escorts are not completely unfamiliar words for the college going crowd. They might not know their actual rendezvous but their existence can't be denied any longer in India.
'Delhi Belly', 'No One Killed Jessica', and 'Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Jee' have done good business despite the 'Adults Only' certificate and thus much publicized 'Desi Boyz' is also expected to come up with a good show at the box office. In fact there are films which have done good business after the popularity gained through the certificate game.
The teasers of the film promise a good skin show by the two lead men. Although John has done this before in 'Dostana' but Akshay will be the new man to enter the stripper rather the escort club.
The basic storyline features two men Nick Mathur and Jerry Patel for whom the economic depression becomes the ultimate nightmare. They decide to become escorts to make both the ends meet but the story also has two gorgeous ladies who are sort of unaware of the actual situations of their boyfriends.
Deepika Padukone is John's girlfriend who likes to live in her own dream world and she does not like Akshay's dependence on John's money.
On the other hand, Akshay finds the glimpses of real love in a sophisticated economics teacher Chitrangada Singh who enjoys every second of life.
The chemistry among the four characters changes the moment John Abraham loses his investment banker job. Now the men are compelled to do something bizarre to keep their lives moving as before.
The songs have become popular and the film is releasing good two weeks after the last big film 'Rockstar' and thus it is expected to get a nice opening but most of the things will depend on Rohit Dhawan's capabilities as a director.
This is not the first Hindi film to be based on the subject of males involved in the flesh business. Deepak Tijori's 'Oops' had also shown male strippers and gigolos but this is the first time when established mainstream actors are appearing in such a film.
The mainstream film industry has started to showcase subjects which were untouchable some times ago. Be it the soft porn industry or be it the superficial love of the younger generation, new writers are constantly experimenting with subjects.
The fate of 'Desi Boyz' will depend on the lead actors' performances as the film seem to have too many characters and songs and to carry such a film without any confusion will need profound acting more than anything else.<iframe width="100%" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/I0flFuZxMcc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
