Join Cong, Rahul tells Tamil's young farmers

Chennai: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday exhorted young farmers in Tamil Nadu to join the party, saying it was not just for moneyed people.

He was in Thanjavur as part of a three-day tour of the state to strengthen the Congress' youth wing. He is meeting a cross section of the young people, including students, fishermen, farmers, doctors, and workers.

At a meeting of young farmers and other youths in Thanjavur, he said the impression that only moneyed people could come up in the party would be changed. He urged them to join the party.

Rahul promised to sort out the problems faced by farmers in the region.

Police in Chennai are on high alert as the ACCI General Secretary is slated to arrive there in the evening.

He will interact with students of Anna University and participate in a party function at Kamaraj Hall and then discuss the party's growth strategy at the state party headquarters in Satyamurthi Bhavan.

He will also meet media owners and editors in Chennai.
