'Joker' hiding from 'Tiger': Where is Akshay Kumar?

Mumbai: The King and the Queen are in their places, but looks like the Joker has gone into hiding. Even with a superhit jodi like Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead, close on the heels of their last Rs 150 crore blockbuster 'Rowdy Rathore', it appears that no one wants to make hay while the sun is shining.

Just 15 days left to promote the film, surprisingly, most of the members of Shirish Kunder’s cast and crew other than the aliens are too busy with other professional commitments.

Who’s busy doing what

The Hindi sci-fi adventure film has been directed by Shirish Kunder and stars Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Minisha Lamba And Shreyas Talpade.
Editor-turned-director Shirish Kunder says his ambitious project 'Joker' is not a comedy film unlike what the title suggests.
'Joker' is being jointly produced by Shirish Kunder and his wife Farah Khan's Three's Company and Akshay Kumar's Hari Om Entertainment Co.
In the past, Kunder has edited films like 'Main Hoon Na' and 'Om Shanti Om'. His debut directorial movie 'Jaan-E-Mann' which was released in 2006.
Though his directorial debut 'Jaan-E-Mann' bombed at the box office, director Shirish Kunder remains unfazed and says he will not hard sell his movie but will instead employ marketing fundas used by Aamir Khan.
The movie is scheduled for an August release with the Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer 'Ek Tha Tiger' hitting the screens in the same month.
Joker will be released on August 30, 2012. Shirish Kunder has repeatedly tweeted that he is super excited about this film which is based in the fictional village of Paglapur.
The trailer of Joker was released on July 11 and gives the first glimpse at the much-talked-about aliens.
Kunder said 'Joker' has some humour but its not a comedy. "Maybe because of the word 'Joker', it is presumed as a comedy. But even 'Mera Naam Joker' was not a comedy," the 38-year-old posted on Twitter.
Minissha Lamba was roped in to star in Joker. She is the heroine opposite Shreyas Talpade in the film.
Kunder, married to choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan, denied the film was inspired by 2010 Hollywood film 'Alice in Wonderland'. He says the only thing common between both the projects is the fantasy factor.
Last seen in the national award winning film Well Done Abba, Minissha, who has been off the big screen for some time, said she was excited about working with Kunder.
Lamba said she was blessed to be acting with the people she has always admired.
Shirish Kunder has uninhibitedly admitted that actress Sonakshi Sinha's role in his next directorial 'Joker' is 'cooler' than her part in her debut film 'Dabangg', which brought her instant success.
Akshay is back from the successful film 'Rowdy Rathore'. His makeup and role is very different to what he plays in Rowdy. But it seems Akshay has signed up for a lot of 'desi hero' roles this year.
Shirish feels very strongly about the publicity of Joker. He said he did not believe in marketing and that when the first trailer comes out he would not be shouting from the roof top and saying 'watch my film'.
This would be the second film in which Sonakshi is paired opposite Akshay after Rowdy Rathore. The look and feel of the film from the trailer is very retro.
Right now Sonakshi's kitty is full of films. She had a big release - Rowdy Rathore - this year. Then she has Race 2 and Son of Sardar lined up.
Asrani has made a glorious comeback to Hindi cinema. He had a role in Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan as well.
The one-film-old Sonakshi Sinha is giving other actresses a run for their money by bagging endorsements and big films, but the Dabangg girl says she doesn't consider herself as part of the competition.
Chitrangada Singh has an item number in Joker.

Joker is said to have been made at a budget of Rs 40 crore. A lot is riding on the shoulders of Akshay and Sonakshi who have been part of massively successful films in the past.
American actor Alexx O'Nell was also signed to play a role in the film.
The filming was done in Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Mumbai. Let's hope Joker revives the luck of Shirish Kunder at the box office.

Akshay Kumar

He is not just acting in the film but also co-producing it. Akki appeared on the finale of a children’s dance reality show recently but instead promoted his other home production, which is releasing much later. There was not a word about Shirish’s film. He is also busy shooting for his other home production with Himesh Reshammiya.

Sonakshi Sinha

She appeared on one reality show to promote the film. Though Akki was in town, he didn’t come along.

The aliens

Last seen promoting the film at a Lower Parel mall.

Chitrangada Singh

While Chitrangada has done one item number in the film, she went to Delhi to promote the film.

Minissha Lamba

The actress’ spokesperson says Minissha has no knowledge of any promotional activity.

He’s away in Bangkok currently shooting for some other project.

Shirish Kunder

He’s gone incommunicado, living day in and day out in a post-production studio finishing the film.
