Jolt for Kalmadi, Bolt's plans not finalised

New Delhi: Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi finds himself in another hole after his grand claim that world record holder sprinter Usain Bolt will be seen in action at the 2010 Delhi Games was contradicted by the Jamaican superstar's manager.

Just days after Kalmadi was reported to have confirmed Bolt's participation at the 2010 Delhi Games, Bolt's manager Ricky Simms denied any such plans.

''I have spoken to Bolt's coach Glen Mills who confirmed that no decision will be made about Usain's participation in the Commonwealth Games until May-June 2010 when he starts racing in the IAAF Diamond League," said Simms.

Bolt will be the biggest draw in Delhi if he does indeed show up. With the Commonwealth Games head Mike Fennell being Jamaican, the chances of Bolt making an appearance are quite high.

But until the deal was signed and sealed, why did Kalmadi feel compelled to go public at an international forum?

It is only the latest in a series of public relations disasters for Kalmadi who switched quickly into damage control mode.

Kalmadi's long list of bloopers is fresh in memory. Earlier had had attacked Commonwealth Games CEO Mike Hooper

He then followed it up with a feeble retraction.

Not for the first time Kalmadi has had to eat humble pie. Will Bolt make him do the same?
