Click to play videoNew Delhi: India-born designer Anand Jon Alexander was arrested in Los Angeles in connection with a series of sexual assaults dating back to 2004.
According to reports, 33-year-old Jon was arrested on March 6 and is being held at the Los Angeles County Jail on a total of seven counts of rape, committing a lewd act upon a child, sexual battery, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Bail for the designer, has been fixed at USD 1.3 million and his first court date is on April 4. The news no doubt comes as a shock to the Indian fashion frat.
“I think it’s very unfortunate,” this was all that designer Tarun Tahiliani had to say.
Meanwhile Jon's Defence Attorney has denied all charges against his client terming them as motivated by professional jealousy.
He states that though the designer was involved with many women, he did not break any law with respect to the contact he had with them.
Jon first made news after a debut at the New York Fashion Week in 1999.
In 2001, he was awarded the Fashion Week of the Americas' "International New Star" award, and later bagged a sponsorship by Giorgio Armani in Spring 2002.
Celeb socialite Paris Hilton ranks among his high-profile clients and he is known to rub shoulders with singer Paula Abdul and actress Michelle Rodriguez.
Ironically, Jon was also working on the script of a film on the darker side of the fashion industry.
