Chennai: Former Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) Secretary General K Jothikumaran Friday filed a defamation suit claiming Rs 25 lakh in damages against a television channel that carried out a sting operation on him recently.
The civil suit claims that the telecast under the subject "Sting Operation - Operation Chak De" is "concoctive, fabricated and fictitious in order to lower the status of the IHF and K Jothikumaran,” and seeks damages of Rs 25 lakh.
The sting operation purportedly showed Jothikumaran accepting financial favours for including a player in the Indian team.
The telecast snowballed into controversy leading to Jothikumaran's resignation and subsequently the Indian Olympic Association, to which the IHF is affiliated, dissolving the federation while appointing an ad hoc committee.
