Reporter of Marathi daily beaten up

Pune: A reporter of a Marathi daily was on Sunday allegedly beaten up by a builder in Pune after he published a news item claiming irregularities in the latter's construction project, triggering protests by the city journalists.

Yogesh Kute, journalist with Sakal and President of Pune Patrakar Sangh, was called by the builder at his residence on the pretext of giving clarification on the report published.

Kute was confined to a room for three hours, subjecting him to abuse and physical torture, a complaint registered with the police said.

Meanwhile, the journalists in the city have demanded immediate arrest of the builder, who also allegedly threatened to kill Kute for publishing the report.
