New Delhi: An inconsolable mother is trying to come to terms with her young son's death. His little sisters cannot fathom the tragedy that has struck their family.

Eighteen-year-old Amar, a Kwality ice-cream vendor, died when he was hit by a car driven by senior TV journalist Neelu Ranjan who was reportedly intoxicated and was returning from a New Year's eve party at the Delhi Press Club.

“He was returning home from work when the car hit him,” said Monu, the victim’s brother.

Amar had been working late at India Gate to make extra money from the crowd. He was hit at the crossing of Ashoka Road and Jaswant Singh Road when he was on his way back home.

Now, his family is left without any source of income. “He was the only one earning in my family. What are we going to do?” asked his mother.

A case for causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered against the journalist who is out on bail.
